The Lowe Family Tree

Philip Rogers

Philip Rogers was born in the weeks prior to 02 Mar 1827 when he was baptized in Caverswall, Staffordshire, England to his parents Philip Rogers and Elizabeth Smith.

The family lived at the Cookshill Mill on Mill Close Road in Caverswall where his father was a Miller turning grain into ground meal or flour for local farmers.A The community would have been dependent on Philip as flour was an integral part of baking bread, a staple part of the diet, and meal was the primary food of livestock.

John Betzikofer

John is currently assumed to have been born in Sigmaringen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany in 1824 under the name Justus Betzikofer.

While research is still underway, this is all we know of John's early life at this current moment.

Even less is known on his wife Emily Zimmerman. She was born in the region of Bayern, Germany about 1828 and seems that her birth name was Apolonia even though she frequently went by Emily and Emma.

Tobias Rauch

UPDATED 05/1/2020: On top of the previous update from 2017 that made use of Ancestry.com's transcribed Württemberg parish registers to identify Rauch birth, marriage and death records, I have added additional footnotes to the bottom of the page to address a few old Rauch family stories that keep appearing. I combed the parish registers for Rauch family members to identify occupations and relationships that hopefully answer some of these longstanding questions.

Lawrence Winkler

Most likely born in New Jersey, almost nothing is known about Lawrence's early life. His father is believed to be Hans Jacob Winkler, but was definitely one of the 3 Winkler brothers who arrived in Philidelphia in 1753 on the ship Neptune (from locations unknown). He married in North Carolina and migrated to West Virginia in 1806 before he finally settled down in Wayne County, Ohio in 1814, becoming a pioneer of Ohio and one of the earliest settlers and founders of Green Township, which wouldn't be formed until 1817. Lawrence and wife Frances had a total of 9 kids and spent the rest of his life in Wayne County, passing away at the age of 77.

George Simons

George Simons was born 25 Dec 1817 to parents Jesse & Mary in Buckinghamshire, England.1 His parents operated Vicarage Farm in Ivinghoe. He married Sarah Short in 1837, immigrated to America with his sister in 1842 and settled in Ohio for 18 years. In 1860, the family moved to Delhi, Iowa. George joined the Union Army and fought in the Civil War where he was wounded 3 times. After his wife died in 1881 and his health started to fail, he returned to England where he died.

Thomas D. Warner

Thomas D Warner was born on 19 Jun 18141 in Sunbury, Northumberland, Pennsylvania.2 Currently his parents and siblings are unknown even though there were multiple Warner families from Northumberland County (Birth date was obtained by counting backwards using information provided by the headstone at his gravesite).

Jacob D. Winkler

Jacob D. Winkler was born on 06 May 18151 in what was then known as East Union, Wayne, Ohio to parents Lawrence and Fannie Winkler.2 Jacob has the distinction of being the first Winkler born in the area now known as Green Township, but it wouldn’t officially be organized as such until 5 Feb 1817.

Gullik Petersen Loe

Gullik was born 26 Jan 1794 on Hære Farm in Øvre Eiker, Norway to a crofter father who rented farmland to get by. The family moved to the mining town of Konnerud where Gullik spent his teen years. Here his father gave him ownership of a small parcel of land named Loe [pronounced loo] near his father's properties of Veierud and Knatholt. Gullik married his wife Maren Christensdatter Wear and lived here for at least 7 years. Family stories say his inability to manage money and a pension for drinking and card playing bankrupted the family, forcing them off the Loe property and out of town. It was the shame of his mother-in-law that bailed him out and saved the family. Gullik's own shame of the situation seemed to straighten him out and the carpenter bought Sondre Myhre farm in Svelvik where they spent the next 20 years before Gullik died in 1856.

Christen Johnsen Stokke-eiet

Christen was born early 1790 at Dalen under Herland Farm in Svarstad in the Lardal parish of Vestfold. Christen's parents were Jon Andersen Dalen and Ingebor Olsdatter. His baptism occurred on the 11 Jul 1790 at Svarstad Church. Witnesses were Helene Pedersdatter Jerneland, Helvig Matthisdatter Dalen, Eric Kielsen Dalen and Peder Jensen Rennedalen.1

Johannes Beyeler

Johannes Beyeler was born on 03 Sep 1854 in Schwarzenberg, Wahlern, Bern, Switzerland1 to parents Christian Beyeler and Magdalena Hostettler.2 Johannes, better known as John, is listed under multiple last names in his lifetime. Originally, John states his last name as "Beyeler", after immigration he changes it to "Beieler", common misspellings have listed "Beiler" & "Beichler", and finally some children adopted "Beeler" and their records applied that spelling to John.
