George Simons

George Simons was born 25 Dec 1817 to parents Jesse & Mary in Buckinghamshire, England.1 His parents operated Vicarage Farm in Ivinghoe. He married Sarah Short in 1837, immigrated to America with his sister in 1842 and settled in Ohio for 18 years. In 1860, the family moved to Delhi, Iowa. George joined the Union Army and fought in the Civil War where he was wounded 3 times. After his wife died in 1881 and his health started to fail, he returned to England where he died.

John Wesley Winkler

Born the son of a farmer in Wayne Township, Ohio, John was a Civil War veteran. He fought along side the Union Army in the 120th, 114th, and 48th divisions of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry over the span of 3 years. John returned home after the war and lived out a quiet life on a farm in Chester Township raising his four children with his wife Catharine.

Philip Sternefeld

Philip Sternefeld was born 24 July 1891 in Manhattan, New York, New York, USA at 217 E. 122nd Street, East Harlem. His parents Samuel Sternefeld and Babetta "Barbara" Scheierman, were Jewish immigrants. Samuel had arrived in New York 10 years earlier from the Netherlands (sometime referred to as Holland) and Babetta 7 years before Sam from Germany.
